Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Senior Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal apologized to the police after an audio clip went viral in which he used abusive language and threatened a police officer from Bolpur. The party leadership instructed him on Friday afternoon to issue an unconditional apology within four hours. Mondal complied within forty minutes, issuing a written statement saying, "The things I said were inappropriate. I should not have said those things. I apologize for that." He added that all police officers, from the lowest to the highest rank, are trusted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and he had no intention to insult them.
In his apology letter, Mondal also explained that he takes several medications that sometimes cause mistakes, stating, "I can apologize to ‘Didi’s’ police not just once, but a hundred times." He mentioned that he was angry because he had received information that the son of a Trinamool worker was beaten by the police. Mondal also alleged that the police officer involved used abusive language toward him during the incident.
Alongside his apology, Mondal raised concerns about the leak of the audio recording. He questioned how the BJP obtained the audio of his conversation with the Bolpur police officer and suggested it could be part of a conspiracy. In the letter, he wrote, "After witnessing huge public support in Bolpur, Siuri, and Rampurhat, some people have become scared. The question is, how did the BJP get hold of the audio footage? Who is providing such information? Is this part of some conspiracy?"
